INTUIT SERIES I have been creating a series of process oriented paintings without preconceived ideas. I begin by simply making marks on canvas and letting those marks lead the way to discovery. This is a similar process of art making in Carl Jung's Active Imagination. Carl Jung explained how play can lead to experimental discovery and meaning. Certain lines or paint strokes may then appear as part of an image. By dialoguing with the image, the artist can tap into the unconscious. The artist does not lead the painting but follows the painting and decide if the line that looks like a bird, face or other symbol will in fact become that image. Metaphors are also part of the discovery.

BLOOD MOON AND AN ECLIPSE
These two paintings were created a year apart while the painting on the right "TRUST THE PROCESS' was away at an art and healing show at University of Central Florida. I had not seen the painting or referred to photos of it while painting "Blood Moon" and yet the movement, strokes, and composition seem strikingly similar. I discovered this as I posted these images together. It is interesting how painting has a muscle memory and we repeat certain strokes and patterns even while creating an entirely new expression.
20 X 24 acrylic painting on canvas The emergence of a shape that reminded me of the recent full moon I missed was a pleasant surprise. I was able to revisit the theme as it occurred spontaneously from active imagination. After images start to arise through paint exploration, playing with them allows the artist to learn what the painting is trying to say.
